Apparel Fulfilment Automation: How DFYNE Built a Warehouse Ready for Growth

Founded in 2021, Scottish activewear brand DFYNE has quickly become one of the UK’s fastest-growing ecommerce businesses. As customer demand continued to increase, the business invested in a new 21,623 sq ft headquarters in Glasgow, creating a modern workspace and automated warehouse capable of supporting its next stage of growth.

Like many fast-growing direct-to-consumer brands, DFYNE reached the point where traditional warehouse processes could no longer deliver the speed, efficiency and scalability needed for continued expansion. Investing in apparel fulfilment automation would help maximise storage capacity, improve product flow and create a warehouse operation ready for the future.

While automation technologies such as AutoStore often receive the attention, every successful installation depends on reliable electrical infrastructure working behind the scenes. From power distribution and communications networks to robot charging, lighting and control systems, every element must work together to ensure the automation performs safely and efficiently.

Discover how apparel fulfilment automation is helping fast-growing ecommerce brands scale their warehouse operations and how Hills Electrical Group delivered the electrical infrastructure behind DFYNE’s AutoStore installation.

Why Apparel Fulfilment Automation Matters

Customer expectations continue to rise.

Consumers expect fast delivery, accurate stock availability and a seamless buying experience, placing increasing pressure on ecommerce businesses to process more orders without continually increasing labour costs.

Apparel fulfilment automation enables businesses to improve storage density, increase picking accuracy and create warehouse operations capable of scaling alongside demand. By combining automated storage, conveyors and intelligent warehouse controls, growing brands can improve operational efficiency while creating a platform for future expansion.

The Challenge

DFYNE required an electrical contractor capable of supporting the installation of its new AutoStore system within the warehouse and mezzanine areas of its new headquarters.

The project required a coordinated electrical installation that would support every aspect of the automation system, including:

  • Power distribution
  • Electrical supplies
  • AutoStore carousel ports
  • Conveyor ports
  • Robot charging infrastructure
  • Communications and access points
  • Control systems
  • LED warehouse lighting

Every element needed to align with the automation equipment and the manufacturer’s installation requirements while ensuring the project remained on programme for testing and commissioning.

The Solution

Hills Electrical Group delivered the complete electrical infrastructure supporting DFYNE’s new apparel fulfilment automation system.

Working closely with the wider project team, our engineers coordinated the installation across both the warehouse floor and mezzanine level to ensure every electrical service was positioned accurately for the AutoStore equipment.

The completed installation included:

  • 12 carousel ports
  • 4 conveyor ports
  • 6 charging points for AutoStore R5+ Pro robots
  • 1 ACS controller
  • 2 new distribution boards
  • Mezzanine power supplies
  • Provision for a PC and operator screen
  • 9 wireless access points
  • A complete LED lighting installation

Alongside the equipment connections, Hills Electrical Group completed all containment, cabling, power distribution and final electrical connections, providing the infrastructure required to support testing, commissioning and ongoing operation of the automated fulfilment system.

The Results

The completed installation provided DFYNE with a reliable electrical infrastructure ready to support its new AutoStore operation and continued business growth. By coordinating every aspect of the electrical installation, Hills Electrical Group delivered an integrated solution that supports power, controls, communications, robot charging and lighting throughout the warehouse.

The project has provided DFYNE with:

  • A fully integrated electrical installation supporting AutoStore technology
  • Reliable charging infrastructure for warehouse robots
  • Modern LED lighting across the warehouse and mezzanine
  • Communications infrastructure to support warehouse operations
  • Electrical systems designed with future expansion in mind

With the infrastructure now in place, DFYNE has a scalable fulfilment operation capable of supporting increasing order volumes while preparing the business for continued growth.
